My name is Amanda, and I have been a facilitator for the Davis Dyslexia Correction programme since 2012. As a neuro-divergent individual myself, I have experienced a significant change in my own life as I have used and shared the Davis tools. Currently, I work with young people 11 years old and over as well as with adults.
When I was teaching English and other subjects at a challenging secondary school in Manchester, I witnessed, first-hand, the frustrations and emotional unhappiness of students who were unable to engage with learning because of the inability of the system to allow them to develop their natural cognitive abilities. The students’ frustration was mirrored by my own dissatisfaction at being unable to offer useful and productive solutions to allow them to take control of their own learning.
After retiring from active teaching, I came across the Davis Method. Instantly, I could see that what the Davis Dyslexia programme had to offer would help me to understand and learn to work with young people and adults who had difficulties with reading, writing, spelling, managing behaviour, and other issues. I immediately trained as a Davis facilitator and quickly became aware of the life changing power when one is no longer “bossed around by the alphabet” (a phrase used by a functionally illiterate 12 year old young man who came to work with me). Certainly, the Davis approach to learning blends remarkably well with my training and experience as an educator.
I also have a background as a counsellor and in Gestalt therapy. I think that these skills and knowledge help me with my Davis work. My particular skill is to be able to find out what my students need in order to progress whether it be practical and/or emotional. I do not offer counselling: I follow the Davis Dyslexia Correction programme created by Ron Davis. As well, I can often help parents and carers to match the learning of the student so that, for example, behaviour at home can be managed. The child gains the confidence to manage their learning and behaviour, and the parent/carer learns how to facilitate and manage the changes that occur.
The Davis Method is the most remarkable programme for helping individuals to become literate and achieve their potential, and I look forward to working with you.

Testimonial from Teni (23). She is an MA student who has just completed her thesis on the exploration of nationality and creativity in terms of race, gender, and sexuality.
My time with Amanda was a beautiful, loving, healing experience that challenged and supported me to achieve my highest potential. Being diagnosed late with Dysexia, I was deeply insecure about receiving help, but Amanda’s assistance met my problems with kindness, patience, and ease. In my short time with Amanda, I learned how to connect and recenter myself while rebuilding my confidence in reading and learning. I discovered that my dyslexia is not a disability but a superpower. I felt truly “held” by Amanda, and I cannot sing her praises highly enough.
Post Programme Texts from Ethan’s grandfather, Chris:
a) Ethan’s latest academic levels are mostly 4s with a 5 in English. Last year’s grade levels were 3s in most subjects, including English.
b) Ethan has received another certificate for progress in Assembly.
c) Having sat all his GCSEs, Ethan is getting an award from his school next week. He has come on quite a lot in the last year. He was even helping his girlfriend with her Maths last week!
d) Ethan has just received his GCSE results. He passed all his subjects with two distinctions and a couple of merits. Thanks for your work with him, Amanda. We couldn’t be more chuffed!
Stacie is the mother of Henry. When he was 7 years old he was afraid of the letters of the alphabet. He would hide under the table rather than make them in clay.
I was drawn to the Davis approach to Dyslexia due to its rounded and practical techniques. I found Amanda and spoke to her at length about my 7 year old son Henry. She has a wealth of experience and through the Davis programme has helped our whole family. She has spent time understanding Henry and helping him with his letters and his reading as well as his understanding of himself and how to manage his emotions. Henry is now able to read independently and although he can find it hard to get started he’s not scared of it anymore. Amanda has helped him become proud of who he is and the skills that come hand in hand with his dyslexia.
It’s Amanda’s breadth of experience paired with the Davis approach that benefits every person she works with. We continue to use the Davis techniques in our daily life and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.
